I'm a working wife, mother of two, endurance athlete, college student and chronic auto-immune warrior. Needless to say... momma don't got time to COOK on her day off! So when I was referred to Trifecta by a friend in 2016, I figured it was worth a shot. Over two years and hundreds of Trifecta meals later, I remain a happy customer. I use their Paleo meal plan currently for my lunches and dinners during the work week, and in the past I loved the A La Carte menu when I was using a macro-counting weight loss plan with awesome success. My favorites are ANYTHING with salmon and chicken, but their steak is killer, too. My husband loves the beef and bison burgers, and my kids occasionally steal the burgers, too. We love Trifecta and I have to say, knowing it's a California-based small business just makes it THAT MUCH BETTER.

Paleolithic or “paleo” eating is a fairly modern lifestyle approach based on the eating habits of our paleolithic ancestors. It is also commonly referred to as the caveman diet or stone-age diet.

Supporters of this dietary approach believe that our DNA and basic nutrition needs have not changed much since the paleolithic era, so our eating habits should not either. Thus, we should be consuming only foods that were available to our hunter-gatherer predecessors and avoid all modern processed foods.

This theory is rooted in the fact that modern-day diet-related diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease did not exist in the stone age. And it is clear that modern-day diets can strongly contribute to health concerns like high blood pressure and uncontrolled blood sugar. However, our ancestors only lived to be around 30 years old, so it’s hard to say whether or not their diet was sufficient for good long term health.

Because a Paleo diet encourages higher intakes of fresh fruits and vegetables, heart-healthy nuts and seeds, fish, and lean meats and restricts foods high in added sugars, trans fats, and processed ingredients, it can be one way to improve nutrition intake and support health when included as part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

Foods that are restricted from paleo eating plans include:

  • Conventionally raised meat, fish, and poultry
  • Dairy
  • Grains
  • Beans
  • Legumes - including peanuts, peanut butter, and soy-based foods
  • Potatoes - with the exception of sweet potatoes
  • Processed oils - with the exception of olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil
  • Refined sugars
  • Soft drinks and soda
  • All other processed foods ingredients
Foods you can eat on the paleo diet include:

  • Grass-fed meats
  • Sustainably-caught fish
  • Free-range poultry
  • Cage-free eggs
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Nuts and seeds

No one person invented the Paleo diet. The original inventors were the Paleolithic ancestors who survived on it.

In a response to 20th-century industrialization, the diet began taking shape in 1975 with a book published by gastroenterologist Walter Voegtlin called "Stone Age diet".

In 1985 Stanley Boyd Eaton and Melvin Konner published an article in the New England Journal of Medicine advocating for Paleo nutrition. 

Today's popularity can be traced to Loren Cordain's 2002 book, "The Paleo Diet", reviving the ancient approach to modern problems.
